High-Performance Multiuse (HPM) Grease Specification
The National Lubricating Grease Institute’s (NLGI) New High-Performance Multiuse (HPM) Grease Specification provides unified industry guidance on the performance of grease and is “chemistry neutral.” The specification is designed with tests and limits for enhanced performance in the areas of water resistance, high load carrying capacity, saltwater corrosion resistance, and low-temperature performance. The performance-based specification ensures the grease can support these areas and can extend or maintain the operation of equipment. The specification’s limits are “challenging yet achievable” in order to set a new performance standard that grease users and specifiers can utilize for selecting greases to use in their applications.
Savant Labs are positioned to address your pre-certification grease testing needs. The core HPM specification testing includes:
International ASTM Method
D217 Cone Penetration, Worked & 60 Strokes
D217 Cone Penetration, Extended Worked (100,000 Strokes)
D4289 Grease Compatibility with NBR L Elastomer
D942 Oxidation Stability
D1264 Water Washout Characteristics of Greases
D1478 Low Temperature Torque
D1742 Oil Separation, Storage of Grease
D6184 Oil Separation Percent, Wire Cone Conical Sieve Method
D1831 Roll Stability of Grease
D2266 Four Ball Wear
